On May 2, 2011, Barack Obama, the US president, announced that Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda leader, was shot dead in a raid by US special forces on a compound about 60km north of Islamabad, Pakistan’s capitall

he death of bin Laden ends a ten-year manhunt for the world’s most wanted man.

Before his death, the last known sighting of bin Laden by anyone other than his very close entourage was in late 2001 – as he prepared to flee his stronghold in Afghanistan. However, in subsequent years he issued several video and audio messages.

How did Bin Laden develop his political agenda? And how did this Saudi-born son of a rich construction magnate – who joined guerrillas in Afghanistan fighting the Soviet Union – emerge to become one of the most feared men in the world?

Ahmad Zaidan, Al Jazeera Arabic’s Islamabad correspondent, interviews a range of people including Taliban commandos, former Mujahideen leaders, Pakistani officials, and journalists who all relate their memories of and insights into the al-Qaeda leader.

The WOW Awards are back, and in its third edition, we’re taking the LIVE quotient up to an all time high! After all, WOW is a celebration of LIVE brand experiences and through the platform we want to celebrate the medium ‘LIVE’ to the fullest.

Our belief in the medium has only strengthened in the years we’ve been involved with the experiential marketing industry. The WOW Award entries from past years are the truest testimony to the undying potential of the medium in creating unparallel experiences. And so our choice in celebrating the experience: LIVE.

We want to push the bar further, like every event property that strives to grow bigger and better with every consecutive edition. We want to push the LIVE experience through not only the work we celebrate through the awards, but through the event itself.

We’ve spruced up the categories this year, to ensure adequate coverage of the range of formats and live experience avenues within the experiential marketing industry. The parameters of judgment have also been tightened to ensure the essential information is known about the campaign and a fair level of judging between entries in maintained.
